The Boys Presents: Diabolical (2025)

The Boys Presents: Diabolical is an American adult animated superhero anthology series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video on March 4, 2022. The series is based on the comic book series The Boys by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, and serves as a spin-off of the television series of the same name. The anthology series was released in eight episodes, each using its own animation style.

Synopsis[]

From some of the most unhinged and maniacal minds in Hollywood today comes Diabolical, a collection of eight irreverent and emotionally shocking animated short films. Featuring stories by Seth Rogen, Awkwafina, Andy Samberg, Aisha Tyler, Justin Roiland, and more, each episode plunges elbow-deep into unseen crevices of The Boys Universe.

At the CCXP Worlds 2021 event in Brazil, Karl Urban first announced the existence of the T.V. series. According to executive producer Eric Kripke, the eight episodes for the show were almost done, with the show expected to debut in 2022.^[1]

Eric Kripke said that the original idea to create Diabolical came about during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the producers wanted to release something during the waiting period before the release of season three of The Boys. Due to the restrictions on most live-action productions, they decided to try and make an animated anthology.

Trivia[]

• According to Eric Kripke on Twitter, "Nubian vs Nubian", "John and Sun-Hee", and "One Plus One Equals Two", are the only three episodes that are considered canon in the show's continuity.^[2]
• The teaser showcases three variants of Homelander engaging in a handshake, ultimately leading to them sharing an intimate moment. This appears to playfully reference the film Spider-Man: No Way Home, wherein three iterations of Spider-Man collaborate. Additionally, it humorously satirizes the prevailing trend in superhero films and shows, where multiverse versions of different heroes meet up. However, in this instance, the portrayal is intentionally exaggerated and comically provocative.
